Charity Chili Cook-Off Returns to Perry County Community Fair on August 21

Aug 4, 2021

Local amateur chefs will once again sweat it out and compete in the annual chili cook-off to raise awareness and funds for the Perry County Literacy Council. Prizes will be awarded for the Judges’ Choice and the People’s Choice for Best Chili, as well as for the Best Chili Cook-Off Booth.

Attendees can sample hot, sweet, and spicy chilis for a 25-cent donation and vote for their favorites. A trophy will also be given to the Chili Cook-Off competitor that raises the most money before and during the cook-off.

There will be games & prizes for the entire family. All proceeds directly benefit the Perry County Literacy Council.

The mission of the Perry County Literacy Council (PCLC) is to provide educational programs for Perry County residents and their families that will enable them to better function as productive, responsible citizens. All PCLC programs are 100% free. Programs are tailored to the individual’s needs and delivered via one-to-one tutoring and small classes. The PCLC vision statement – “Overcoming Barriers to Career Pathways through Adult Education” – serves as a summation of the organization’s philosophy.

“It has been so much fun to see this event grow in popularity from year to year,” said event coordinator and PCLC Development Officer Leslie Heimbaugh. “We were not able to hold the event in 2020 due to the pandemic, but we are excited for a fun-filled event once again this year.”

Heimbaugh also noted that there are still opportunities available for event sponsorships and chili cook-off participants. If interested, contact Leslie at literacy@pa.net or 717.567.7323.
