Help Us Make Change

As a volunteer tutor, you will be teaching adult students various literacy and educational skills. Since each student’s course is self-motivated and self-directed, your role as tutor will be to facilitate the studying and offer students the positive support they need to succeed. This position requires a strong commitment to help see students through their individual programs despite potential setbacks. We at PCLC believe in solving problems and breaking down barriers, and we encourage our volunteer tutors to put this philosophy into action when working with students.

Become a Volunteer Tutor

The first step in becoming a volunteer tutor with PCLC is to contact our offices at (717) 567-7323 and schedule an appointment. You can also get in touch with us by filling out the information request form below.

Upon volunteering, you will receive plenty of support from our experienced staff, who will guide you as to what you will teach and how to teach it. PCLC tutors receive 12 hours of training in teaching methods and are subsequently matched with a student or group of students with whom they are asked to hold two sessions totaling 3 hours per week. Tutors meet with their students at public locations on mutually convenient days and times, usually at the PCLC offices.
