Finding Help in Perry County: How We Support Our Community

Aug 9, 2024

Here at the Perry County Literacy Council (PCLC), we know that finding help in rural areas like Perry County can be tough. That's why we're here to offer support to those who want to do better for themselves and their families, but face challenges. While many know us for our adult education programs, like helping people get their high school equivalency, we do so much more.

For over 30 years, we have been helping residents of Perry County gain the skills they need to be successful and self-sufficient. Our adult basic education programs include:

But we understand that learning new skills is just one part of the picture. Many of our neighbors in Perry County face other challenges, like finding childcare, healthcare, or housing. That’s why we work with a variety of organizations to help provide these services. From our office in Newport, PA, you can access resources for childcare, social services, financial help, and connections to an array of other programs.

We are also a Certified PA CareerLink, which means we can help you work with employment specialists, access training programs, help file unemployment claims, provide support for workforce re-entry and disability services.

As an authorized IdentoGO Identity Services provider, we can assist you in getting a state-issued photo ID or a copy of your birth certificate.

Our goal is to help you overcome all the obstacles that might be in your way, whether it be addiction issues, transportation, food, or paying bills.

At PCLC, we know that life can be challenging, and services are not always easy to find. That’s why we are here—to help you find the support you need to build a better future.
